Common Sense Media Age: 12+ Violence 3/5 Language 3/5
My Age Recommendation: 11+ (Due to sci-fi action violence and brief language).
I was so excited when the new phase of the MCU was released, specifically for this movie. I loved the first two Ant-Man movies and they were incredible, and I was hoping this would be better since they added a mystery aspect to the mix with the Quantum Realm. Unfortunately, this movie falls short in a few ways. The story follows Scott's family as his daughter Cassie created a satellite beacon to remotely make a map of the Quantum Realm from the comfort of their home. Janet, who was in the realm for 30 years, demanded the device be destroyed due to things she never told them about that place, but it is too late and the device backfires, sending them straight to the Quantum Realm! They encounter strange beings, a whole new ecosystem with people and animals, and they learn the secrets Janet has been hiding the entire time. Can they escape this realm alive, or will one of Janet's secrets be the death of them all? Let me say, this movie was okay. The characters were great and so was the development (like most MCU movies). The main problem however was with the story and some of the scenes. The story was fine but the execution was weak which made parts of the film rushed at times. Some scenes with Kang and his army of 'blue people' eerily resembled exact scenes from Star Wars, and there were many of these scenes throughout this movie. Overall, this is an okay movie to start off phase 5, but the next few movies hopefully are an improvement over this one.
