Common Sense Media Age: 12+ Violence 4/5 Language 4/5 Sex 2/5
My Age Recommendation: 12+ (Due to strong action violence throughout, some strong language, and a brief suggestive comment).
I wanted to watch this movie ever since I was younger and read the Blue Beetle Comics. The character was always unique to me, and I found the blend between brutal violence (only in the comics) and comedy to be refreshing and fun! When I saw this trailer for the first time, I was interested with the live-action approach to this character and was excited to see it! the story follows Jaime Reyes as he is the first of his family to graduate from college and he is currently visiting his family in Palmera City. He later is entrusted with an ancient artifact called The Scarab, and after messing around with it, The Scarab chooses Jaime as its new host and creates a symbiotic form for Jaime to use called Blue Beetle. A corrupt technology company named Kord Industries originally extracted The Scarab from a third world country and wanted to use it to make copies to create a weaponized private army, and they are willing to do anything to get it back from Jaime. With Kord Industries targeting Jaime's family, he will have to make a choice between his own life or his family's with his newfound Blue Beetle power! Let me say, this movie was pretty good. The story was good with a steady pace throughout, and the plot itself was also great. The character development through both rapid-fire jokes and intense and emotional sequences helped make the characters feel less fake and entertaining. I will say some of the jokes and dialogue seemed a little cliche and corny, however it was a very minor problem compared to the rest of the movie. Visually, many of the scenes looked stunning and DC finally did a good job with their CGI in this movie (some scenes in The Flash had some questionable CGI moments). Overall, this is a great superhero movie for anyone to enjoy!
Blue beetle was actually so good I loved the focus on family
