Borderlands ★☆☆☆☆

I want to start by saying I did not read the reviews about this movie until I already planned on seeing it, and by then it was too late to cancel! I am a huge borderlands fan and have played almost all of the games, and when I heard they were making a movie I thought it would be decent. I wasn't expecting much, but after seeing it debuted with a 0 on rotten tomatoes, although I don't usually like their ratings, I was shocked at how low this one was. At the time of seeing the movie, it only got up to a 10, and I will say the film deserved that 0! The story (or whatever was scrapped together) is about a woman named Lilith who is told to return a girl named Tiny Tina to her father (leader of the Atlas corporation), only to get tangled in a quest to stop Atlas from reaching a vault on Pandora before its too late. I will say watching the movie doesn't add to the confusion you probably have reading the synopsis, as this was probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I'll start by saying if you are a borderlands fan, do not expect anything to be accurate, and I mean every little detail is pretty much not real in the games. The characters do not speak or act anything like their counterparts in the videogames and their dialogue is horrendous. I've never seen a movie with such dialogue in which the charcaters talk like a high schooler gave them the script or with such bad timing on every joke that was never funny to begin with. The sheer amount of forced humor from each character had me confused as to who signed off on this idea, and to add to it all, none of the character were acting like themselves which tanked the entire thing from start to finish. The set looked like someone just watched a trailer for a borderlands game or they just looked at the cover and said "I'm going to add a bunch of junk on the ground of a desert and call it a day" which is exactly what they did. I also thought before seeing this that at least the action will be cool if not for anything else, and again I was wrong. The CGI was terrible and each explosion lasted just as long as a muzzle flare from a gun which was really bad. The lack of depth for anything in this movie whether it was the story (lack of), characters, effects, and dialogue had me questioning who greenlit this movie and said this was a good idea. The budget clearly went to getting the celebrities for this movie instead of for good writers or even someone to play one of the games. I could continue to write an entire essay on why this movie sucks, but overall I do not recommend this to anyone and all Borderlands fans shouldn't see this.
