Bullet Train ★★★☆☆

Common Sense Media Age: 16+ Violence 5/5 Sex 4/5

Language 4/5

My Age Recommendation: 15+ (Due to strong graphic and bloody violence throughout, pervasive strong language throughout, and a brief sex scene).

When I saw the trailer for this movie, my initial thought was that this movie was just John Wick but on a train. When it came to theatres, the online reviews said it was a very mediocre movie, so I waited for the Netflix release. When I watched it, I realized that for once, the internet was right! The story follows an assassin with the code name Ladybug as his main task is to enter a bullet train, steal a briefcase, and leave the train. This task, while seemingly simple, gets put on hold as multiple other assassins and enemies enter the train, all with their own goals. When these people interact, it is safe to say miscommunication takes the stage and violence ensues. Will anyone leave with the objective they entered with? Let me say, this was a little bit of a disappointment. The action sequences were great, and the final few minutes when everything comes together was fine, but the rest of the movie wasn't the best. The story got confusing at times with all these characters being introduced quickly and then usually killed soon after. The development of these characters (besides for Ladybug, Tangerine, and Lemon) was non-existent, and this made the final moment of the movie very unsatisfying. Usually, these complaints make the movie a 2/5 instead of the 3/5, but what gave it the extra star was the character dynamic between Tangerine and Lemon. Unfortunately I cannot go in depth with these characters due to spoilers, but it was very enjoyable to watch and saved many useless scenes of this movie. Overall, this is a mediocre movie with a couple good characters, good fight scenes, and a useless story.
