Captain America: Brave New World ★★★☆☆

I was extremely excited to see this film from the moment I watched the first trailer months ago. The new phase of the MCU is so close, and I was really hoping Marvel finally made a 4 or 5 star film to get into the new Avengers films. While I cannot consider this an amazing entry, it did satifsy the entertainment standards I set and it was objectively an 'okay' movie. The story of course follows Sam Wilson as he picks up the role of Captain America, and he is instructed to work with the government to reassemble a team of superheros that would work for the president. Like any MCU movie, an unexplained threat appears, this time within the government, and it's up to Captain America to save everyone. I will admit, the story itself was a little lackluster and definitely wasn't creative. The dialogue however wasn't as bad as I thought it would be considering the main story, and the characters were developed well (minus the villain). I can also confidently say what made this movie from 2 stars to 3 stars was the action and the high entertainment factor this movie had. Usually when the plot is decent to near terrible, I cannot find entertainment in it but similar to Godzilla X Kong, this movie was so much fun as an audience member. The cinematography specifically during the aviation fight scene was done really well and the blockbuster action was so much fun to see. The red hulk fight sequence, while the CGI was a bit shoddy, was also entertaining although I wish there was a bit more of it. This movie will definitely lead to something of higher value later on in this phase of the MCU, however this entry was passable and had its moments. I'd say for the final decision of if this is worth a theater watch, you should go for it in a premium format to enhance the entertainment factor. I watched in in LieMAX (IMAX but the screen isn't too big and doesn't go higher than a 1.90 AR) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think a solid 40-60 minutes of the film are shot in IMAX in a 1.90 AR, and the action scenes sounded great in the IMAX 6 channel sound (unfortunately this LieMAX theater had 6 channels and not the full 12 for sound), and I do recommend this format for the film or even Dolby. Overall, this is a flawed yet entertaining entry for the next part of the MCU, and hopefully the stories get a little stronger the next time around.
