Common Sense Media Age: 13+ Violence 4/5 Language 3/5
My Age Recommendation: 12+ (Due to strong sci-fi violence, some disturbing imagery, and some language).
I have been anxiously waiting for this movie to release since the first few trailers dropped. Of course I was surprised on the day early screenings were held that the ratings were low for an MCU movie (as of 5/28/22 rotten tomatoes scored it a 74/100). When some of my friends started to watch this movie, they told me it was much better than the critics have been saying, and I have to agree! The story begins when Doctor Strange goes to his ex's wedding which is then interrupted by an intergalatic monster that wrecks havoc. When he inevitably saves the day, he sees that a young girl was the target of this monster, and soon he learns she has the power to open portals to other universes and she can travel the multiverse. With Wanda Maximoff wanting this power so she can travel to a universe where she has children, she asks Strange to give the child over to her. When he declines, a war begins between Wanda and Strange as they travel to many universes to find a book of dark spells that can stop the Scarlett Witch. Will Doctor Strange save the child? Let me say, this movie was not as bad as people claim. I liked the characters, and the development was solid throughout the movie. I also loved the CGI in a lot of scenes, especially during some of the multiverse-traveling sequences. I also think the story was great, but it's execution was a little rough and left some parts of the movie slow while others were moving very fast. But the characters and the engaging storyline itself made this movie very enjoyable and is easily one of my favorite MCU movies (attack me all you want but I stand by this statement)! Overall, this is a great movie with dynamic characters, stunning visuals, and a good story!
