My Age Recommendation: 15+ (Due to sequences of sci-fi violence, some strong language, some sexual humor, and brief usage of sexual objects).
I have been told to watch this movie non-stop for a month now, and even my Instagram DM's are full of people asking when I will watch this movie. After seeing the trailer, I was confused on what the premise even is, but I decided to go see it anyways, and I am glad I did! The movie follows Evelyn Wong, a middle aged Chinese woman who has a lot on her plate. She has to meet the IRS to review her taxes since her laundromat business is under review, deal with her needy father who flew in from China, and her daughter wants to introduce her girlfriend to Evelyn's father, much to Evelyn's chagrin. At the IRS meeting, Evelyn's husband Waymond starts to act weird and says he's a different Waymond from another universe, and that he needs Evelyn's help to stop a powerful universe-destroying villain. Evelyn learns that she has to do weird tasks such as giving herself papercuts or switching her shoes to the wrong feet to activate her abilities that are linked to another universe. Can Evelyn use all of her other versions' skills to defeat the villain, or will she be sucked into the endless void just like many other universes are currently doing? Let me say, this was an amazing movie. The story is great with a fast moving plot from beginning to end. Ironically, the character development is slow on purpose and we don't know everything about them until the very end. The concepts and visuals absolutely blew my mind, and it keeps me thinking to this day about the possibility of multiverses. One thing that does set this movie apart from the other multiverse-style movies is the fact that this one introduces a new concept of people from other multiverses are connected to their counterpart in other universes. This concept helped develop the characters even more as we see the similarities between all the Evelyns or Waymonds throughout the different multiverses. Overall, this is an amazing movie that everyone needs to watch, and expect your mind to be blown.
