Common Sense Media Age: 17+ Violence 4/5 Language 4/5

My Age Recommendation: 15+ (Due to strong bloody and graphic violence, and strong language throughout).

After being disappointed by Thor: Love and Thunder, I decided to go back to my list of modern-classic movies to watch, and this was at the top and I am glad I decided to watch it! The story follows an African-American man named Chris who is dating a white woman named Rose. Rose wants Chris to meet her family now that their relationship is getting serious, and Chris agrees to spend a weekend at Rose's parent's house in the country-side. When Chris arrives, everything seems to be fine, but later that night Rose's mother forcibly hypnotizes Chris to try and get rid of his smoking habit. Chris then starts to experience weird interactions with other people at the house. An unexpected party of Rose's family arrives and instantly Chris feels like something strange is going on. When an unexpected encounter occurs at the party, Chris starts to wonder if it is all in his head, or if something deadly is going to happen? Can Chris figure out what's really happening before it's too late? Let me say, this is an amazing movie. The plot moved at a good pace and this made the main twist in the movie extremely effective. The characters were developed well throughout the story, which also made the twist much more effective. The concepts of racial injustice and passive racism is not shoved down the viewers throats like many other films, but rather experienced with the audience throughout the movie as Chris experiences the microaggressions himself. This helps the ending really sink into the audience's mind and helps us understand the true meaning of the entire movie. Overall, this was an amazing, thought-provoking movie that everyone must watch!
