Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ★★★★☆

April 13th, 2023

Common Sense Media Age: 13+ Violence 4/5 Language 3/5

My Age Recommendation: 13+ (Due some violence, strong language throughout, and brief disturbing sequences).

After the disappointment of the last MCU movie (Ant-Man Quantumania), I was really hoping that this highly anticipated conclusion to the Guardians of the Galaxy saga would restore my faith in the current MCU phase, and I think it definitely did! The story follows The Guardians of the Galaxy as they rebuild their society on Knowhere while Peter Quill is still not over Gamora. All of these emotions are put aside when an attack from a powerful being named Adam Warlock injures Rocket Racoon. While trying to save Rocket, they learn that Rocket has certain electronic features that were added by someone in his past, and this prompts them to go on a quest to discover who made Rocket the way he is today and what horrors he had to go through as a baby racoon. They soon learn The High Evolutionary is to blame for the unethical experiments and torture he conducted on Rocket, and they have to defeat him in order to free all of his remaining test subjects. Can they save Rocket and defeat The High Evolutionary? Let me say, this movie was amazing. The story was great and properly executed, the character development was good throughout the film, and the characters themselves kept the story moving during slow times. I will admit, this was a dark and disturbing movie, and unlike Marvel, there weren't that many comedic moments to make up for those intense scenes. Overall, I think this was a perfect and thrilling conclusion to the Guardians of the Galaxy series, and I cannot wait for the next few MCU movies in this phase.
