Happy Death Day 2U ★★★☆☆

August 1st, 2019

Common Sense Media Age: 13+ Violence 3/5 Language 4/5

Sex 3/5

My age recommendation: 14+ (Due to violence, language, scary situations, and sexual content including sex related dialogue).

After Happy Death Day, I thought it was all over. I thought that Tree (the main character) found out who the killer was (Spoiler Alert, it was Tree's roommate Lori) and killed her, stopping her time loop and ending this once and for all. Well, we were all wrong. Here we are with Happy Death Day 2U. The story is Tree is stuck in a parallel universe and needs to get back. This universe is different than hers in many ways. For instance, her boyfriend Carter is with someone else, and her friends are completely different versions of themselves. When Tree realizes that Carter's roommate altered time, Tree now knows she's going to be stalked by the killer again. Tree quickly learns that the killer isn't the same as the last time, and she'll have to master the aspects of this universe to get back to her old one. Will Tree get back. I hate to say this, but this movie wasn't as good as the first one. The actors were great, the story made sense, but it was the concept. The concept was good, but the way it was put into the plot was a failure. This resulted in a confusing plot. I found myself pausing the movie to process what had happened and why it happened. Another issue I had was that the movie was too short. It was only 1 hour and 40 minutes, and I feel like if they added more time, it could be less confusing since everything wouldn't have to be rushed. Overall, this is an ok movie for any fans of Happy Death Day.
