Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ★★☆☆☆

July 18th, 2023

Common Sense Media Age: 12+ Violence 4/5 Language 2/5

Drinking/Smoking 3/5

My Age Recommendation: 12+ (Due to some strong action violence throughout, some language, and frequent smoking).

When I heard that they are making a final Indiana Jones movie, I wasn't too excited for it. I have seen all the original movies, however I was never the biggest fan of them, so I was not expecting much from this. On day one of this movie being released, I remember seeing that this movie scored pretty low with critics and many people called it a 'mediocre final film', so I decided to see for myself if this movie was as mediocre as some said. The story follows Indiana Jones, now a teacher who specializes in archeology. When his goddaughter Helena finds him and tells him about a relic her father was obsessed with finding, Indiana Jones is roped into her journey to find the Dial of Destiny before a group of Neo-Nazis find it. Can Indiana Jones secure his final piece of treasure? Let me say, this movie was a letdown. The story had so much potential, but slow-paced scenes spread throughout the movie significantly slowed the plot and thus made it boring for some parts. The story itself had potential, but the whole 'time-travel' aspect of the movie seemed ridiculous to me and under-explained. Probably the one thing the movie did well enough was the character development (except for the kid who is shown throughout the movie, he is practically a mystery). Overall, this is a sub-par movie that only true Indiana Jones fans should see.
