Joker ★★★★★

Common Sense Media Age: 16+ Violence 5/5 Language 4/5

Sex 3/5 Smoking 2/5

My Age Recommendation: 16+ (Due to infrequent but strong bloody violence including rioting, shooting and stabbing, strong language, brief non-sexual nudity, a brief sexual sequence, and frequent smoking throughout).

I knew walking into this movie that it was going to be dark and gritty, but I was not expecting such an amazing performance from Joaquin Phoenix and Robert DeNiro. The story follows Arthur Fleck, a person who suffers from a neurological condition which causes him to laugh violently and uncontrollably during intensely emotional moments. Because of this, his job is to be a clown and entertain at children's hospitals and spin signs for businesses. Things seem to be going really bad for Arthur, as he learns he struggles to start his comedy career, take care of his old mother, and fit in at work. When he is jumped by teenagers, he begins his downward spiral into madness as more and more problems occur in his life. How far will Arthur go before he turns into the Joker, and how will he change Gotham city? Let me say, this movie was one of the best movies I have seen ever. The acting was amazing, and I am so glad Joaquin Phoenix won best actor at the Oscars in 2019 for his performance in this movie. I was stunned at the acting and the story and really how well Phoenix conveyed the character and portrayed insanity and madness. I loved the character development, and the plot was amazing. The plot twist at the end sent me down a rabbit hole online trying to understand what I just watched, and this movie will definitely change your perspective on many things. Overall, this is one of my favorite movies of all time that everyone needs to watch.
