My Age Recommendation: 16+ (Due to extremely strong bloody violence and gore throughout, some disturbing images, pervasive strong language, and brief mentions of sexual assault).
After watching John Wick 4, similar to what happened after I watched John Wick 3, is that I wanted to watch more over-the-top action movies similar to that, and this was the first movie that popped up. The website that informed me about this movie said it was basically 'John Wick but with swords', and I couldn't agree more! The story follows an assassin only referred to as The Bride who wakes up from a coma after four years. We learn that she was shot and left for dead at her own wedding and 8 others died at her wedding that day. She made a list after waking up of those responsible for those deaths and made it her mission to kill each one until she reaches the main man responsible for this. Along the way, we learn more about what really happened at The Bride's wedding and about the people she works with, and this causes a few twists along the way! Will she get whoever was responsible? Let me say, this was a great movie. The story, while a little rushed in the beginning, was incredible after the first few minutes and so were the characters. The development of the characters was great (which is good considering this movie is all about revenge). I also, of course, loved the over-the-top stylized violence and sword-fights, but I also loved the shocking moments that were scattered throughout the film. Without those, the movie would only be full of comical violence and funny amounts of blood and guts. Normally, I would say the story feels incomplete due to the plot twist at the end and then the cliffhanger, but since this movie was originally supposed to be released as one whole movie (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) and had to be split for MPAA reasons, I will not hold plot inconsistencies against this movie since the second one tie it all together. Overall, this is a great Tarantino movie, and I cannot wait to see what happens to The Bride!
