Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Part One ★★★★☆

July 12th, 2023

Common Sense Media Age: 13+ Violence 4/5 Language 2/5

Sex 1/5

My Age Recommendation: 13+ (Due to strong action violence throughout, some language, and a brief suggestive scene).

I saw this trailer for the first time about a year ago, and all I could remember was the ending shot of Tom Cruise jumping off a cliff and landing onto a train. I was shocked, and I instantly knew this was going to be another amazing Mission Impossible movie. I was a little skeptical when the title said 'Part One' since most of those types of movies have plot holes, but this one defied that. The story follows Ethan Hunt as he is informed of a new threat, an A.I. device that was supposed to be used to help governments but has now gone rogue and goes by the name The Entity. The Entity cannot be controlled unless a user puts in a two-piece override key that would allow the user to use The Entity to do whatever they want, and this A.I. can make and destroy anything you could possibly imagine. With a race for the world's greatest villains and governments ensuing to get both parts of the override key, Ethan Hunt must get both pieces and destroy The Entity so that no one can use it. This task won't be easy, especially since The Entity can predict outcomes and use this to influence fellow villains' decisions. Can Ethan stop the deadly A.I.? Let me say, this movie was great. The story, despite having two parts, did not have any plot holes, and it was extremely compelling. The plot execution was fine, but towards the middle of the film it got heavy with dialogue and kind of slowed the movie down a bit, but it definitely picked up after that. The character development of both returning and new characters were great and was usually done through dialogue and unexpected actions. Probably the best part about any Mission Impossible movie would be the action scenes and the crazy stunts, and this movie did not disappoint! The action scenes were insane and over-the-top, choreographed really well, and the stunts with them were amazing. The final train sequence had one of the best stunts I'd ever seen! Overall, this is an amazing movie in general, and I cannot wait to see the final Mission Impossible movie next year!
