My Age Recommendation: 16+ (Due to some gory and disturbing sequences of murder, disturbing imagery, and brief strong language).
After watching Infinity Pool, my IMDB movie recommendations were all graphic horror movies. This one popped up with a news article under it stating that scientifically, this movie is the scariest movie ever made. I was not sure what this meant, but apparently this movie had one jump scare (out of the three) that caused people's heart rate to jump over 60 bpm! I knew for a fact I had to watch this movie and see for myself! The story follows a popular true crime novelist who recently moved into a house with his family to work on his book. The town he moved into was home to a young girl who went missing which is the center of his book. He hasn't told anyone, including his wife, but the house he moved into was the same house in which the girl's whole family was hung by a tree still in the backyard. While exploring the house, he finds a box of Super 8 film tapes, and while playing them, each one shows the graphic murders of multiple families, including the one who lived here previously. After trying to piece together the murders, the writer starts to witness strange things in his own house, such as the film tapes starting on their own, or his son having sleepwalking night-terrors. As he gets closer to figuring out the murderer, the house becomes more dangerous, and a shocking revelation might be the last thing the writer ever discovers! Let me say, this movie was really good. The story was amazing, and most horror movies do not have good execution, however this movie had a good pace and kept the scares coming throughout! I can definitely see which jump scare was supposed to be the worst one, and it did not disappoint. The characters in this movie were developed through the setting, which is a little unusual, but it worked well. The soundtrack was extremely unnerving and terrifying, especially the ones playing during the viewing of the Super 8 tapes, and I think that alone had me shaking along with the graphic visuals on the tapes itself. Overall, this is an amazing horror movie for anyone looking to be scared!
