After seeing the first one years ago, I remember being disturbed for the first time in a while. I wasn't expecting such creative jump scares and being filled with dread and I really wanted a second film. The concept seemed dumb at first from the trailer, but after the numerous scares in the beginning of the first film, I knew this wasn't gonna be a breeze to finish. The second movie did not disappoint, and there is a lot to unpack here! The story follows a global pop star named Skye Riley who witnesses the death of a drug dealer. After this, she sees people smiling at her who look like her friends, but like the first film no one can see this people the way she does nor do they believe her. What ensues is a wild chase to find out how to stop this before her time is up and the demon takes control fully. I was extremely impressed with this sequel, and it is much better than the original. For starters the acting was insanely good, something I wasn't expecting, and it helped during the crazy scenes with crying and distressing moments. Speaking of, this film was one of the most crazy and disturbing things I've seen in years. There are less jump scares in this film than the first, however each one got me and two of them in particular are up there for the most effective jump scares I've ever seen. There's a lot more manipulation in terms of what Skye sees versus what the world sees, and these scenes are done really well and add to the disturbing atmosphere of no one believing you. The editing was much better this time around, with more diverse shots (since the setting is New York) and they did better with the pacing too. The third act of this film I can only describe as insane, and my anxiety during the end was through the damn roof, especially considering one of the most effective jump scares I've had in a while was at the end. The entire movie was bleak and depressing, and the acting only aided in making me feel uncomfortable and distressed the entire time. I didn't even get a break during the credits, since the credits song was extremely creepy and blaring throughout the theater to the point where me and my friend did not stick around for an end credits scene. All of this aside, the movie was done well with much better characters this time including better actors, acting, twists, the plot in general, and the setting. I was extremely impressed with this film, it had me shouting 'oh shit' multiple times, and it genuinely got to me towards the end. Overall, I recommend all horror fans to see this film as it was truly harrowing and hard to watch, and I left the theater shaking!
