Terrifier 2 ★★★☆☆

CONTENT WARNING: THE FOLLOWING MOVIE IS NC-17 FOR EXTREMELY GRAPHIC SEQUENCES OF BRUTAL ULTRA-VIOLENCE INCLUDING GORE AND SEVERE DISMEMBERMENT. VIEWERS DISCRETION IS STRONGLY ADVISED

Common Sense Media Age: 17+ Violence 5/5 Language 5/5 Sex 3/5

My Age Recommendation: 18+ (Due to extremely graphic depictions of violence including gore, torture, dismemberment, and ultra-violence, pervasive strong language throughout, brief nudity, and some sexual references).

As you can tell by the content warning, this movie is absolutely crazy. I watched the 'home collector edition' which is the one streaming, and that version said NC-17 in which the theater version was R (or some places left it at NR), so I already knew this movie was graphic. I was not prepared for 'that one scene' in the movie (the one that made people vomit and pass out), but I will say this movie surprisingly has more messages and a good story line that the violence can be condemned as part of the story and not excessive (for the most part). The main story follows Art the Clown who is back in Miles County for another killing spree, but this time he sets his sights on siblings Sienna and Jonathan, whose already troubled past prepares them both to fight back against Art the Clown after he kidnaps Jonathan and Sienna has to now rescue him. While yes the story sounds lacking from the description, it is actually pretty good. The story itself is miles better than the first one, with a lot more character development of the siblings and most of the victims instead of the mindless killing in the first one. The pacing is pretty good too, with a steady stream of killing and plot development throughout with a surprising amount of characterization of Art the Clown himself too, which made this movie enjoyable. As for the over the top sequences of ultra-violence, I will say it was a part of the story instead of just random killings like the first one, however 'that one scene' (I won't spoil it) was of course over the top and delved from the plot on purpose, but it was still fun to watch, and by fun I mean extremely hard to watch and had me squirming in my seat. My main concern for this movie was of course the few random killings here and there, but also there was a lot of room for more characterization for the victims towards the end. The beginning characterized the siblings along with all the victims, but towards the end the story seemed to just completely erase this idea which sucked because that's what made this movie have some sort of 'substance'. But overall, this story is pretty good with decent characters, and of course that one infamous scene is a cinematic masterpiece!
