Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) ★★☆☆☆

July 26th, 2022

TW: THE FOLLOWING MOVIE CONTAINS A SCHOOL SHOOTING SEQUENCE AND EXTREMELY GRAPHIC VIOLENCE. VIEWERS DISCRETION ADVISED.

Common Sense Media Age: 16+ Violence 5/5 Language 4/5

My Age Recommendation: 15+ (Due to extremely graphic violence including body dismemberment and disturbing imagery, and some strong language).

After watching Get Out, I realized I wanted to watch more slasher films, so I googled some and found that they made a direct sequel to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie from the 70's. Even though I knew this movie was going to suck, I still decided to watch it, and my initial opinions were correct. The story is set in 2024, 50 years after the 1974 chainsaw killings. The world is in shambles as gun violence continues to rise and inflation isn't doing any better. A group of influencers who are trying to raise awareness to gun violence decide to buy out an abandoned town to set up their businesses for themselves and followers. Things go wrong when they discover an old woman still living in one of the reclaimed properties, and a deadly chainsaw wielding killer is not to far either. Can the influencers escape the town? Let me say, this movie was amazing in terms of entertainment, and absolute garbage when it comes to the story and characters. The characters were extremely flat, with little to no insight on them. The only thing we know about them are that they are influencers and one of them got shot in a school shooting. Other than that, we know nothing about them. The setting is also very confusing since we only learn about the outside world through the characters scrolling on Instagram and seeing activism posts. On the plus side, the violence and gore was abundant and the kills were very disturbing, which is good for these types of movies. There was one point where Leatherface kills 60 people in a bus with so much gore and blood that I was amazed that this movie was not NC-17! Overall, this is a terrible movie with a bad story and even worse characters, but gore fans will love the extraneous sequences of chainsaw action!
