Common Sense Media Age: 15+ Violence 4/5 Language 2/5
My Age Recommendation: 15+ (Due to some violence, brief bloody images and sequences, and some mild language).
After finishing the first Nun movie, I was told by others that the second one was a bit better, but still repetitive and kind of the same. I still decided to watch it for the scares, and while the jump-scares were a bit more effective this time, it was still a major disappointment. Set five years after the incidents of the first one, Sister Irene is now a full nun when she learns of another priest who was murdered in France. After being briefed on the murders, she can instantly tell it is the work of The Nun she encountered five years ago, but this time it has possessed someone else to keep the demon alive. Sister Irene must now travel to France with the help of another nun to hopefully end this demon once and for all. Can Sister Irene defeat The Nun, or will the person the demon has possessed prove to be the end for them all? Let me say, this was only a little bit better than the first one. Some positives for me include the great scenery and cinematography during the overheard shots in the beginning. I also liked the added scares and how they were a bit more creative this time than just items falling or loud noises. However, there were still a majority of scares that were cliche and therefore not effective for me, and the story for this movie seemed to be a bit worse than the original, in which the pacing stayed really fast throughout and did not seem to slow down at all. Sister Irene's 'sidekick' Debra for this movie was not characterized at all, with only two lines about her past in the beginning being all we know about her character while she runs around to help the main character. The Nun herself was shown a lot more on screen despite the side-plot of the possessed person, which was great since that was a complaint of mine for the first movie, however those are the only positives I can think of for this film. Overall, this is a weak sequel to an already weak predecessor that only big fans of The Nun should watch.
