My Age Recommendation: 16+ (Due to strong bloody violence, disturbing sequences, strong language throughout, brief drug usage, and a scene of attempted rape.)
After watching The Purge, I knew the sequels would not be as good as the original, but I was already hooked in this dystopian world with the New Founding Fathers, so I guess there is no turning back now! This movie follows two families, one who is attacked in their own home and another one who's car broke down, who are left on the streets as the 2023 Purge starts. With these people struggling to survive, a revenge-seeking purger decides to let his emotions get the best of him and safe these two families from a dangerous group of purgers. They all agree they have to work together to survive, but with a few plot twists, this task is much harder than it seems. Can they survive the night? Let me say, this movie was better than the first in some ways and lacking in others. For starters, the characters were way better in this movie, and they are developed well. Another thing better than the original, and this is entirely my opinion, was that the entire night was shown from the main characters in the streets, not in one house like the first movie. I liked seeing the full effect of the purge from characters instead of from TV screens. Unfortunately this movie had a few plot holes towards the end, and it had some topics that were introduced but never developed further. Overall, this is a decent sequel that has better characters but a little bit of a weaker plot.
