The Purge: Election Year ★★★☆☆

June 10th, 2022

Common Sense Media Age: 17+ Violence 4/5 Language 4/5

Sex 2/5

My Age Recommendation: 17+ (Due to extremely bloody and gruesome violence throughout including beheadings, stabbings, and shootings, pervasive strong language throughout, and frequent disturbing imagery).

I decided to take a break from The Purge movies because watching them back to back is a very bad idea! After some time off, I decided to get back into this dystopian yet realistic world. The third movie in the series follows Leo Barnes, the tough guy from the previous purge movie, who now works for a senator named Mrs. Charlene Roan. Charlene is running for President and her first order of business will be to get rid of The Purge altogether. She got this idea from when she was kidnapped on purge night 18 years ago and watched her entire family get brutally executed. With Leo protecting Charlene during the Purge night, one of Leo's other bodyguards sold them out to mercenaries and they are now on the run in the middle of the streets of downtown Washington D.C. on the most dangerous night of the year! Can they survive the night? Let me say, this movie was pretty good. The story was great, the execution was okay with some flaws in the story, but the characters were developed well. The two sides of the story (Good vs. Evil) made this film have characters that you wanted to see win and survive the night, unlike the previous movie. The few twists in the movie were impactful, and the ending was not bad either. My only problem were the few plot holes and the falling action after the climax which was a bit fast. Overall, this is a decent movie in this series with twists and scary moments!
