Common Sense Media Age: 11+ Violence 4/5 Language 3/5
My Age Recommendation: 11+ (Due to strong action violence and destruction throughout, and brief strong language).
My dad is a huge transformers fan, however he only likes the original cartoon series from the 80s and the one movie that went along with it. He still decided to go see this movie, and I tagged along because it is set in the Bumblebee universe (and I loved Bumblebee), and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! The story follows Unicron, a planet who feeds off destroying other planet, as he makes his way to Earth in search of a warp key. This key would allow Unicron to teleport anywhere in the world, making him able to destroy any planet. The autobots, now stranded on Earth for half a decade, learn about Unicron and his search for the key, and want to find it themselves to bring them back to their home planet, so they team up with the Maximals and a few humans to retrieve the key. Can the team stop Unicron from destroying Earth? Let me say, this movie was better than I thought. Unlike the first five Transformers movies, this one does not feature extended sequences of mayhem and destruction, and instead focuses on the plot (which was decent) and the characters (also decent). I will say the plot execution was a little rough with a slow middle, but it quickly picked up. The story itself was okay, and the introduction of the Maximals was also not bad. The action sequences were done really well, as for the rest of the movies, and the character development wasn't horrible. Overall, I recommend this movie to Transformers fans as they would be able to overlook some of the minor flaws.
