Ugly Dolls ★★☆☆☆

August 18th, 2019

Common Sense Media age: 7+ Violence & Scariness 3/5 Language 1/5

My age recommendation: 5+ (Due to some scary violence).

I wasn't expecting to watch this movie in a million years. How did this happen, you might ask. Well, I told my brother to pick a movie for me to watch and review, and he chose Ugly Dolls. I will say, if I was a child watching this, it would be one of the best movies ever. From movie critics point of view, this movie has some work to do. The story is basically a bunch of dolls who have been rejected because of their differences. All the Ugly Dolls have built a town called Ugly-Ville where all these dolls can have a home and have fun. Life is perfect in this home. Until a doll named Moxy came along. Moxy has always believed that there is a world where dolls can be loved and played with. One day, she and a few others go to the tunnel that brings all the dolls to Ugly-Ville, and they soon discovered a whole place filled of dolls. This place was called the institute of perfection, and only perfect dolls will pass this school and find their true child that will play with them. Will they pass the school with their flaws, or will the institutes leader keep trying to make them quit. From a child's point of view, this movie has good messages for anyone and its a good movie. From a critics point of view, the movie isn't that good. The concept is great, but the plot is flawed, and some of the characters actions cannot be explained by the plot. The singing is a bit excessive (maybe it's just me), and some of the characters are rushed in the beginning. Overall, this is a good kids movie, but a flawed one.
