I was tired of watching the same old horror movies, so I looked up the scariest movies of all time. This movie, it's sequel, and Hereditary were the top three. So I watched them all and now it is time to review them! This movie follows a group of violent pranksters who are hired by an unknown man to steal a VHS tape from an abandoned house. The group finds a dead man inside the house and many VHS tapes, so they start to watch them, each one more sinister than the last. The first one shows a group of college students getting drunk and taking a two girls home to hopefully score, but one of the girls is harboring a deadly secret. The second tape shows a married couple on their honeymoon as they travel across the country with their camcorder, and someone breaks into their hotel at night and turns on the camcorder and starts to touch them in their sleep. What they don't know is that the intruder has a more personal agenda in store for them both. The third tape follows a group of college students going to a lake to spend a weekend together. Things go south when one of the group members reveal that she brought them all here as bait for a killer that can only be seen on a camcorder screen, and things get bloody very quickly. The fourth tape takes place on video calls showing a couple talking to each other. The girl in the relationship starts to hear and see a little boy running around the apartment, and the ending will definitely leave you shaking. The final tape shows another group of college students going to a haunted house party, only to find no one was there. The house starts doing things on it's own such as raising pots and pans and hands even appear through the walls, but the boys think it's part of the haunted experience. It is only when they see a woman being assaulted in the attic that they know something is wrong! Back in the main story, the pranksters are disturbed by what they saw, and they start to experience things of their own! Let me say, this was a decent movie. The main story was well developed along with the characters, and each tape had great stories with effective twist endings. Each tape was increasingly scarier than the rest, and I can safely say this had to be the scariest movie I had seen so far. Overall, this is the scariest movie I've ever seen with decent stories and great characters.
